Inicialmente , TriStar pictures se llamaba así por Columbia (cuyo dueño era Coca Cola), HBO y CBS. Después.
Columbia quedó sola y se renombró "Columbia / Tri Star" . Finalmente, en 1989 fue comprado por Sony:
